Good sharpener
Big fan of the the reel sharpener. Once you get the hang of it, it works quickly. This link is very helpful for guiding you through the first time. [...]
Not bad...but
I bought this and only used it once. Then the handle broke off of my mower. In the 2 times I was able to mow since we used it it seemed to have improved a little, but I was going to give it another round of sharpening before we used it again. So it seems to work ok, but it is a little tedious to do and will not restore a brand new edge.
great product, does just what it should
This saved me a bunch of money on having my reel mower sharpened at a hardware store or golf course here in town. They wanted at least $75, and I had to call a half-dozen places to even get that! For $20 I got this kit which not only let me do it myself pretty easily (does take awhile, and the directions are moderately involved) but also gave me a tip on balancing the screws on my reel mower properly, which I found out they weren't. I loved the hint about tearing a thin strip of newspaper and dangling it in the blades on BOTH sides of the mower, to see if they slice it right up cleanly. If it doesn't even come close, it may not be the blades that need sharpening, it may be that the blade itself needs to be adjusted closer to the cutting surface! All in all a brilliant do-it-yourself product that I'm glad I bought.

this thing powers through tall grass, but is very hard to push
This lawnmower works great for my small yard, I averaged 3 cuts per charge this summer. My yard is only .10 acre, but I would go over it once to cut, and second time to clear the grass clippings. I don't use the bag attachment since it fills up way to quick and I had to keep stopping to change it. I found it easier to cut once, and mulch the second time. I did let the grass get a tad too high, and this still cut through it, I even mowed over some plants I no longer wanted.
One very big con is that it's heavy! It is fine to push down hill, or flat, but when it comes to pushing up hill, it is a challenge and a workout!
Works great but back tires aren't great
Great mower. It is a little on the heavy side but that is b/c of the battery. The back wheels ended up bending but customer service is great. Shipped new wheels out free of charge. Great company.
Earthwise 60120 rocks
I've received the product for a month. Done four mowing with one charge only, still have some left. Though I have a small lawn. The grass was cut nicely and neat (the motor is very powerful and blade is sharp) without any gas fume. With 500 charges in a battery life, I don't have to worry the replacement in first two years.
One drawback I discovered is that somehow after mowing the little cut grass spill out of the bag. Other than that I'm very happy with this mower.

Pretty Pleased
Works well and does start on the first pull - at least, so far. Very light weight and maneuverable but sturdy. I like the wider than normal wheels that don't dig in on soft areas or where the grass growth is somewhat sparse. The variable speed control is a little too easy to go too fast because as the mower goes over small bumps or roots below grass my pressure on the "go grip" varies and it tries to take off. I'm going to add a piece of tubular foam insulation for pipes over the top of the handle to ensure it doesn't come back too far.
Engine quit after 6 months
I agree with all the other reviews that say this is a great mower for the price in terms of cut, power and mulching. I bought it in April from my local Home Depot in PA to cut my quarter acre yard. The mower worked great for 6 months until this week. I was mowing for about 20 minutes when the mower stalled for no apparent reason. Acted like it was out of gas. After a few pulls it would start again but only run for 30 - 60 seconds. Decided after 5 attempts at this to let the engine cool and see if I could run another 20 minutes. Nope - just starts and stalls again after 30 - 60 seconds. My symptom sounds a lot like the problem R. Wenzel (Huntersville, NC) described in her review here: http://www.amazon.com/Lawn-Boy-10641-Stratton-Propelled-Compliant/product-reviews/B001MYLQDS/ref=cm_cr_pr_hist_3?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=0&filterBy=addThreeStar
Took the mower to the nearest Lawn Boy authorized mower repair shop. They called within 1 day and claimed the cylinder sleeve was scored and there was no compression. They said it appeared to be run with no oil in the engine. That is not true - I bought it new - in a box - so unless it was damaged at manufacture, there is no way this mower was run with NO oil. I asked if they saw a leak and if there was oil in it now. (I check oil level every week). They said NO leak and yes the oil was full. Also it does start and run for 60 seconds so how could there be NO compression? Anyway they made me call Lawn Boy as they believe damage is not covered under warranty.
Lawn Boy took down my info and they are investigating. They promised to call back in a few days. I will post their response. My advice so far...save your warranty info on this mower.
Dave's Mainline
Received the shipment in good condition. Looks and runs great - started on the first pull. Very Good Value!!
The self-propelled system is far better than the so-called "Easy Stride". It's controllable, "Easy Stride" isn't.
Lawn-Boy will exist no longer, after this model year. At present, Toro does NOT offer a self-propeled model like this one. BIG MISTAKE for them??

great eco friendly alternative to a gas mower!
cuts the grass well, keeps it cut evenly, easy to push and maintains it well. i do say it nor any other does well getting an overgrown yard under contril.
Love it!
I got this lawn mower as a back up to using a gas powered mower for a rather large lumpy lawn in the mountains. It worked wonderfully well as a back up, very sharp and easy to push. Had to use the gas mower when lawn was too long, since the push mower just flattened the grass when too long. I also loved that it is quiet.
no gas needed
This type mower is a nifty thing, it cannot be compared to a gas mower cause lets face it, gas mowers are wonderful and easy, until they stop working, then costly. The Reel Mower takes a little effert, if you have pine cones and little sticks from the trees, they stop you fast. Another quirk is that Bahia grass if it gets to tall, this kind of mower just knocks it over.

An enjoyable way to go green
I bought this mower last summer (2008). I call it my "magic lawnmower" because it's so very delightful. It runs quieter than a gas-powered mower (but not a whole lot quieter), and it doesn't smell of poorly-combusted gasoline.
I have two complaints: I got a warranty repair for the switch axle which others have explained is poor design. The cut is not particularly even. I often cut the same spot twice (or use a very narrow pass) to get it level enough for my taste. Another commenter noted that the key switch is flimsy for its purpose and I agree, but it hasn't caused me any trouble.
When I discuss this mower with friends, a few items come up:
1) It still uses energy, so how does it help the environment? Economy of scale. Power plants, even burning coal, burn much cleaner than a 1-cylinder gasoline engine. Most of the smell to which I was accustomed from mowing is from burning gasoline, and everything you can smell is a volatile organic carbon - which is worse than CO2 for global warming.
2) How long does it run? I haven't run it out of power yet. Once I forgot to plug it in after cutting the lawn, and it made it through two passes of about 25 minutes each. Given that I can cut the whole yard in about 25 minutes with a 19" mower, you can surmise that it's not a very big lawn.
3) Is it heavy? I don't think so. It's heavier than the $100 Murray I replaced, but it's lighter than some self-propelled gas mowers I've pushed.
The on off lever broke after 18 months.
I like the way the mower works, but the handle shouldn't break on a $400 dollar machine. It's pivot point is plastic and that broke off. Rather than go through the hassle of taking it to a service center I just drilled a hole and put a bolt through the pivot point and it works fine. When I complained to their main office they ignored the point about the shoddy workmanship and instead told me I had voided my warranty. I figured the jerks would do that. I told them to print out my reply in triplicate, wad it up, and shove it where the sun doesn't shine.
One small technical problem, but WORTH IT
I've been using this mower for a year now. It doesn't have the juice to do my entire lawn, but I don't care. I love that I can mow with my kids around and not worry about choking them with exhaust and the hazard of storing gasoline in the garage. (Did you know that running a conventional gas mower creates the same pollution as 8 cars running at the same time?)
But I digress. It cuts great (I usually use either the highest or second-highest setting) and I always use the mulch setting. Battery run time has been steady at about 40-45 minutes, even with taller grass.
The only problem I had with the CMM1200 is with the safety handle assembly. Perhaps they've updated this in the past year, but the handle that needs to be held in while mowing (or else it shuts off) is on the fragile side. I found out because I was holding in the handle while I "bounced" the mower a little bit on my driveway to dislodge some wet grass that I had gotten stuck up under the deck. And spang! Something snapped and the mower shut off. Anyway, I had to drive 40 minutes to an authorized warranty repair shop, but they had it good as new--with a sturdier handle--in about 20 minutes. (If this happens to you, just look up service or repairs on the Black and Decker site.) The folks didn't even need to see the mower receipt or anything.
Anyhow, while that was a hassle, I love this mower! Now only if we had the know-how to build cars that ran on electricity, we'd be on to something...
